Edelweiss Summer Reading Program Information

How does this year's summer reading program work? It’s simple! Just pick up a “Genre Edelweiss” sheet and Reading Log from the Primary Library or from the Library Website. There is an Edelweiss sheet for Early Years to Grade 2 and another for Grades 3 to 5.  Each student/family reads one book from each of the different genres written on the petals and keeps track of their reading via the log during the summer. (The genres are different for lower and upper primary, so make sure you’ve got the right flower!)

In August, returning students bring their completed reading wheels and logs to the library. There will be certificates, bookmarks, pencils and maybe even a little tasty treat for all who participate!

There are no assigned books. Students simply choose the books they wish to read within each genre. Students are also allowed to read books in their mother tongue if they prefer. All students at all reading levels can participate!

Looking for ebooks? Grade Level reading recommendations? Look no further than the Library Website!

We have subscriptions to online ebook databases such as: Bookflix and Tumblebooks. You can also go to the Parents link on the homepage for all sorts of reading ideas and recommendations.

Starting Monday, June 17 students returning to ICSZ next year will be able to check out an additional book from the library for the summer (4 books in Early Years to Grade 1 and 6 for Grades 2 to 5). Parents who have family accounts will be able to check out 15 for the family. Books for the summer reading program need not be from the Library!

If you have any questions, just email me or stop by the Primary Library.

Wishing you all a terrific summer full of reading fun!
